On the sixth day.

In pre-kindergarten, we are learning all about God's creation. On the sixth day, God made all of the land animals, and people too. Ask your pre-kindergartner about some of the other creatures God made on the sixth day. Their answers will amaze you! Recently, on the playground, we found one of God's creatures, the praying mantis.
If you look carefully, at its front legs, you will notice they are folded in a praying position, hence the name! The boys thought this was especially cool; the girls, well not so much!

The Kissing Hand

Our "kissing hands" help us to feel close to Mommy and Daddy while we are away at school.

Happy Fall, Y'all!

Did you know that fall has begun? Here in Atlanta, it's hard to tell with the record high temperatures, but according to the calendar it is certainly here. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the smells that welcome fall, pumpkin spice lattes, college football, cool mornings (hopefully!), and candy corn! Today in pre-kindergarten, we talked about things we love about fall. Check out these cute responses:
  • leaves fall and turn colors
  • bears come out
  • jumping in big piles of leaves
  • playing outside
  • parties
  • picking pumpkins
  • raking leaves
  • playing soccer
  • having sleepovers
  • going to ballet class
  • pumpkin pie
  • school starting

"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."

Daniel 2:20-21

Hiding God's Word in our hearts. (September)

Daily, we are learning to hide God's Word in our hearts. One of the most effective ways to do this is through memorizing God's Word. Each month your child will be responsible for learning Bible memory verses.
Bible Memory Verses for September

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Genesis 1:1

"Children, obey your parents."
Ephesians 6:1

To help your child learn their Bible memory verses, have them recite each verse on the way to school or at night just before bedtime.

The first day of school.

We are off to a great start in prekindergarten this year. Every school year, I like to take a picture of the children on the first day. It is so amazing how much they change over the course of the year. So, here are my little cuties on their very first day of prek. Enjoy!

It's so nice to meet you!

If you are reading this, then it is likely you have a precious child in my pre-kindergarten class. Welcome! I am so excited about this upcoming school year. Thank you for entrusting me with your son or daughter during the school day. I look forward to meeting each of you and getting to know your families better. I am confident we will learn lots from each other. I would love to start off the year by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Heather O'Dell, and this will be my sixth year teaching at The Heiskell School. I am married to David, and we have four children. I love love love being a mommy! Our family is actively involved in our church, First Baptist Austell, where David is the pastor. During my free time, I love to read and journal. I also enjoy photographing my family and capturing the moments of all the adventures we find ourselves taking. Here are a few pictures taken of our family this summer.
We welcomed the newest member into our family in May, so we spent the summer adjusting to being a family of six and loving every minute of it!
This picture was taken in July when we loaded up our party of six and traveled to Arkansas, where my husband is from for a family reunion and wedding.
Also, this summer we took our oldest two children to their very first Braves game. Boy was it hot, but the Braves won, so it was definitely worth it!
Thank you for stopping by our blog. Please check back often throughout the year, as I will be updating it regularly to give you a better idea of what we are doing in pre-k!
